Scholarships

Houston Christian High School offers 8 scholarships each year. We have the Academic Merit Scholarship, The Betty Butler Distinguished Scholarship, The Janis Masonhall Memorial Scholarship for Technology, and the Ann Crenshaw Fine Arts Scholarship.

Academic Merit Scholarship

HCHS will award up to five outstanding incoming 9th grade students a $1000.00 academic scholarship. Recipients of this scholarship are eligible to have the scholarship renewed annually based on grades, conduct and involvement at HCHS. Merit candidates will typically reflect the following profile: “A” average throughout 7th and 8th grades, outstanding teacher recommendations, strong writing sample on the ISEE exam, consistent attendance and positive conduct records, evidence of school/community involvement, and completed the Academic merit Scholarship application.

The Betty Butler Distinguished Scholar Award

In recognition of Betty Butler's commitment to excellence, the Betty Butler Distinguished Scholar Award is granted annually to a student enrolling in Houston Christian High School's Distinguished Scholars program. 

Eligibility – The Applicant must be a returning student entering his/her junior year at Houston Christian High School , who because of a commitment to academics and past performance, has been accepted into the Distinguished Scholar Program and has demonstrated financial need. 

Selection Criteria - The recipient will be selected based on his/her overall qualifications with regard to financial need, scholastic performance, community service and leadership to HCHS, extracurricular involvement, and the written essay section of the application.

Ann Crenshaw Fine Arts Scholarship

The Ann Crenshaw Fine Arts Scholar endowment was established in May 2003 to honor Mrs. Crenshaw's 30 years of service to Northwest Academy and Houston Christian High School .  During that time, she has inspired countless students and shared with them a passion for music.    The intent of the award is to reward excellence in the fine arts and to celebrate the winner in the HCHS community during his/her senior year. 

Eligibility - The applicant must be a returning student entering his/her senior year at Houston Christian High School.

Criteria - Award is to be granted based on merit only.  Financial need is not to be taken into consideration.  Recipient should demonstrate through their talents that they embrace and support Christian values and principles.  The award was established to recognize excellence in the fine arts at Houston Christian High School in one or more of the following areas: art, band, choir, drama, and orchestra.

The Janis Masonhall Memorial Scholarship for Technology

This scholarship is awarded to an incoming freshman student with a passion for technology in order to encourage that interest and help the family defray expenses for purchasing the required technology. 

Eligibility - Applicants must be entering the ninth grade at Houston Christian High School.

Criteria - The recipient will be selected based on her/his overall qualifications with regard to her/his interest in technology as expressed in the written essay section of the application, in combination with her/his awards and extracurricular involvement pertaining to technology.
