Emergency Communication Procedures


In the event of a school-wide emergency involving the scenarios below, HCHS will make every effort to contact employees with information by the following means:

Weather Delay. School opens at a delayed time. Notification will be posted through local media outlets and on the school website.

Weather Closing. School is closed for the day. Every effort will be made to notify local media outlets by 5:45 AM and place the announcement on the school website by approximately 6:00 AM. The timing of actual postings by the media is beyond the control of HCHS. After-school activities may or may not be impacted by this decision.

Early Dismissal. School is dismissed early canceling one or more afternoon or evening activities. Notification will be posted through school emails to parents and the school website.

Campus Security. In the event of a major breach of security requiring the school to follow established lock-down procedures, notification will be posted through school emails to parents and the school website.

In-Country Trips. Individual or group emergencies will be managed by the school trip coordinator and/or assigned local administrator (Athletic Director, Fine Arts Department Chair, Sponsoring Faculty Member, or local school administrator) by phone and/or the school website. The names of these persons will be provided with the trip packet prior to departure.

Overseas Trips. Individual or group emergencies will be managed by the school trip coordinator and/or the assigned local administrator by phone and the school website. Travel agents have been directed to communicate and coordinate with the assigned local school administrator as the community conduit for the latest information. The names of these persons will be provided in the trip packet prior to departure.
