Passport to Lead

In the 2004-2005 school year, the Board of Trustees and the Leadership Team at Houston Christian High School began talking about the importance of developing a clear, mission-driven institutional identity. Rather than wait and see what might develop, we believed HCHS would benefit from casting a vision that was distinct and meaningful to the school community and work towards fulfilling this distinctiveness over the course of time. We began this exercise believing that by developing an institutional identity, HCHS could, in time, distinguish its position among top-tier college preparatory schools and ultimately fill a unique niche in Houston 's competitive independent school market.

A Leadership Development Committee was established in April 2005 and charged with the responsibility of developing a comprehensive leadership program conducted by the faculty to permeate all facets of curricular, co-curricular and school community life. The Committee worked nine months to develop the Passport to Lead Program around sixteen principles within five dimensions of leadership. In this initial phase of development, the Passport to Lead Program is composed of the following elements:

  • Thematically Designed Leadership Curriculum Integration in all courses (program core)
  • A once a month leadership/mentor chapel (program core)
  • Elective Leadership Course
  • External Opportunities for Leadership Development
  • Community and Co-curricular Leadership Opportunities
  • Distinguished Leader Speaker Series
  • Student Passport for Tracking Leadership Development
  • Leadership Certification only for students completing a rigorous leadership track

The Passport to Lead Program began in the fall of 2006 led by Tom Wilson working together with the school administration to lead, monitor and evaluate program effectiveness.

Our Vision

Inspiring young people to lead by uniting faith, intellect and gifts to reach their greatest promise.

Leadership

Teaching our students to take the lead to influence people to achieve a common goal and through this process to honor God.

We have integrated leadership topics into the curriculum of every course taught at HCHS. Leadership principles will be taught in Bible, literature, history, mathematics, arts, and athletics. We will present a Biblical view of leadership development.
