English Department Philosophy
The Houston Christian High School English Department believes that students need to become not just consumers of literature but critics and producers of it. The department also thinks young people need to learn to express themselves effectively, both through the written word and the spoken word. The students of Houston Christian High School will develop skills in analyzing and critiquing literature and writing and speaking effectively through the interaction with classic literature from a variety of cultures and genres, both Christian- and secular-based. Leadership lessons are integrated into the curriculum throughout the year.
